Description

These Savory French Onion Beef Sloppy Joes combine caramelized onions with seasoned ground beef for a rich, comforting sandwich. The buttery onions release natural sweetness that melds with the beef, while Worcestershire sauce adds depth. Served on toasted buns, this easy 30‑minute recipe feeds four, making it perfect for quick family meals or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they become translucent (about 5 minutes).
  2. Continue cooking the onions, lowering the heat if needed, and stir every few minutes. After 15‑20 minutes the onions should be deep golden brown and caramelized.
  3. Increase heat to medium‑high and add the ground beef. Break it up with a spatula and cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5‑7 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper over the mixture. Stir in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, then simmer gently for 5‑7 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. While the mixture simmers, split the hamburger buns and toast them lightly in a separate pan, under a broiler, or in a toaster.
  6. Spoon the beef‑onion mixture onto the bottom halves of the toasted buns, add extra caramelized onions if desired, top with the bun lids, and serve immediately.
